The Goodness of God is a celebration.

"I am certain that I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living."

                                                                -Psalm 27:13

God's goodness is all around us. It is in us. We are here because He is so good. This September, we will come together and celebrate how good and faithful and loving and kind and mighty and awesome our Father is! We will laugh and cry together as we learn more about the character of our Good God through his Holy Word.

Just ordinary women celebrating an extraordinary God. Would you join us?

In the fall of 2023 a question was asked... "What do the women of our church and community need?" As we prayed the Holy Spirit stirred our hearts. The answer, "We need healing", came with a new question. "What would happen if the women of our community had the opportunity to hear from women right here? There are a lot of phenomenal women's conferences out there; polished programs with gifted professional speakers and award winning worship artists. Those conferences are wonderful, but several truths began to rise up...

It is in our weakness that Jesus is strong.  (2 Corinthians 12:9)

It is out of the ashes that God creates beauty. (Isaiah 61:13)

It was the power of the Holy Spirit in ordinary, untrained men, that caused others to marvel at Jesus. (Acts 4:13)

What might God do through the simple obedience of ordinary women who gather just to share Jesus with one another with no other purpose but to celebrate God's goodness and to bring Him glory?

This began an earnest time of prayer. Ordinary women, excited about this new calling, gathered together to wait on God and seek His heart. For months, all we did was pray. Not planning was very uncomfortable for most of us! We continued to lay that discomfort before Him, and to be obedient, knowing, in faith, that He would and He will show up.

Ordinary Women

  • Megan Burns - Worship leader

Megan Burns is the wearer of many hats: wife to Patrick (15 years this year!), home schooling mom to a girl gang, custodian, birth doula, crazy plant lady, lover of missions-especially Haiti, dog mom, claims coordinator for a trucking company… and the list goes on. This year, God has been showing her how these things she “does” have come between her & Jesus! In His kindness, the Holy Spirit is helping her learn to sit in the quiet, listen for direction, while praying and reading God’s Word. He wants a relationship with her, true and loving, open and honest. He wants to walk through all of her life with her: deep wounds, heavy emotions and grief.

  • Aleigh Cornelius - Youth speaker

Aleigh is a 16 year old junior at Hays High School. Although she grew up in church she knows she still has so much to learn. She volunteers at First Baptist Kyle by serving regularly in the children's ministry, and as a servant leader in the youth group. She has struggled with a hormonal imbalance for the past 5 years and is seeking the Lord with hope for healing. Aleigh has recently felt called to start a Bible study with girls in her area and has been amazed at the growth she has experienced through this act of obedience. She is also a small business owner, and loves making jewelry that brings people joy.

  • Jolee Cornelius - Prayer Leader

Jolee Cornelius is a pastor’s wife, mother of 5 and testifier to the Goodness of God! All that she has, hopes for and aspires to be are because of Jesus and His redeeming love. Some spiritual markers in her life include: salvation at age 7, a call to missions at 14, marriage to her best friend at 23, 4 beautiful daughters and two babies in heaven by 32, surviving  parent’s divorce at 35, adopting son at 37, ministry at 4 different churches by 45 and still being married to her best friend at 46. God is Good!

  • Taylor Glenn - worship leader

Taylor is a wife, and a mom to Kennedy (starting Thursday 😂) and also a dog mom to Barb and Belle. She was blessed to marry her best friend, Jesse, 5 years ago and God has truly blessed her with a wonderful husband. Taylor began playing piano at 4, and guitar at 8, came to faith at the age of 13 on a mission trip in Connecticut. Ever since then she has been passionate about using her love for music to glorify God. She began leading worship at 13, and was a worship leader on staff at FBC Kyle for 6 years before being called away to work full-time outside of ministry. God’s goodness in my life has truly been undeniable.  He has gotten me through some of the most difficult things in my life including a miscarriage towards the end of last year. During that time the song “Goodness of God” was on repeat and truly was the cry of my heart. I am honored to be a part of this celebration and to continue proclaiming God’s overwhelming grace and goodness. Psalm 100.

  • Tonya Horn - Prayer Leader

Redeemed by God’s grace and learning to walk with Christ in freedom from shame and approval, Tonya Horn serves the Lord as a wife, mother of 4, and children’s ministry director at First Baptist Kyle. Tonya became a mom at 18, and since then has raised or worked with children as a middle school teacher, preschool teacher, and children’s ministry volunteer for over 16 years. Her time spent with her own family, and many hours spent with other moms and children has led her to become passionate about ministering to children and families. Tonya is a TX state trooper wife to Andrew, her husband of 16 years. She is mom to Landon, Ryleigh, Beckham, and Paxton. She celebrates God’s goodness and faithfulness in her life as she spends time with her family and friends, and through the opportunity God has given her to love the children and families in her ministry.

  • Lily Kretzschmar - Speaker

Over a decade ago Lily was healed and delivered of the crippling fear, anxiety, and depression that had plagued her, and now she wants everyone to know what Jesus did for her. She is passionate about  discipleship, prayer, and ministering to the broken hearted. Lily currently lives in a multi-generational family village with Andrew, her globe-trotting engineer husband of 25 years, and their 22 year old son Tobias. After being a homeschooling mom, she is joyfully surprised to find herself serving as the Youth Director at First Baptist Kyle. She loves hanging out with family, friends, and the youth kids, playing board games, knitting items she may not finish, and she is still learning to abide in Jesus, as a beloved daughter of her perfect Heavenly Father.

  • Alix McKinney - Prayer & Testimony

In 2016, Alix McKinney moved with her husband to Texas from Virginia, intending on being a stay-at-home mom to their son. God had other plans for her, and after their second son was born, He moved her to teach preschool. It was during that time she began to feel God calling her to minister to children. She currently serves as the Assistant Children’s Ministry Director at First Baptist Kyle, co-directs VBS, and teaches Sunday school to the most incredible group of elementary aged kiddos.  She advocates for healing and finding freedom in Jesus through prayer. She finds joy in looking back at her life and seeing where God carried her through and helping others to see God’s workings in their lives. She is a law enforcement wife to Jeff, her husband of 11 years, and boy mom to Wyatt, 10 and Duke, 6. Having two boys with Special Circumstances, she keeps busy with their busy schedules. In her free time, Alix enjoys being outside, cooking and baking, and spending time with her sweet and rambunctious family.

  • Sherry Posey - Speaker

Sherry is a native of the Kyle/Buda area. She is a retired grandmother of a slew of beautiful children, and grandchildren. She spent her career as a public school educator and found joy in serving the children and families of the community. Throughout her life she has seen the Lord's goodness demonstrated in many ways, and he has recently been sharpening Sherry's vision. As she looks back His Goodness is more apparent than ever. She looks forward to seeing one generation commending His works to another, as they tell of His mighty acts (Psalm 145:4).

  • My name is Penny Woodard. I am 81 years young. I have 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. I had a day care for 32 years in my home, have done numerous craft shows, and taught many Bible classes, including classes on Biblical parenting and discipline. The Goodness of God is my life. God has taken me out of a horrible childhood with a horrible concept of a Father to a loving relationship with my Heavenly Father. She became a widow, after 59 years of marriage and then lost her 32 year old Grandson to a tragic accident. God saw her through a period of deep anger and proved that He is patient, loving, caring and faithful.

    Penny Woodard - speaker

Penny is 81 years young, is "Nana" to seven grandchildren, and two great-grands.  She's done many craft shows, and also had a daycare in her home for 32 years. Penny has taught classes centering around Biblical parenting and child discipline, and now leads women's Bible study. God has been so good to her- He redeemed the horrible concept of a father that she emerged from her abusive childhood with, and introduced her to a loving relationship with her heavenly father. Penny was widowed after 59 years  of marriage and then, a few years later, she lost her 30 year old grandson due to a terrible accident. She was very angry at God for a time, but Heis patient, loving, caring, and faithful. These experiences have shaped her faith and she can’t help but praise and thank him for His goodness and how He has brought her through.

  • AMy Eernisse - Guest speaker

Amy has been married to her husband, Dale, for just over two years. Together they bring a total of nine children and four grandchildren to their blended family. They currently reside in Portland, Texas, where they are faithful attenders of GracePoint Church. Dale is often found in his kayak every chance he gets, and sometimes Amy gets to tag along.

Amy has earned her Certificate in Ministry through Stark College and Seminary and is currently in her last term at Western Governors University, where she is working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Isaiah 61:3 (NLT) says, “To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.” The promises in this verse have been ever so evident in Amy’s life since the passing of her first husband of 20 years, Jorge Cabrera, on August 24, 2020. God comforted her and provided for her during the most difficult time in her life, and then He restored her beyond anything she could have ever imagined. God’s plan for Amy has been far bigger than she could have ever expected, and He is not finished with her yet.
